This guides intends to offer new int'l students a one-stop place for the most relevant resources and services both at OWH Library and on the campus.

What Is Plagiarism?

The Oxford English Dictionary defines Plagiarism as:

The action or practice of plagiarizing; the wrongful appropriation or purloining, and publication as one's own, of the ideas, or the expression of the ideas (literary, artistic, musical, mechanical, etc.) of another.

When to Use Citations

You must use citations when:

  • You use a direct quote from a resource.
  • You paraphrase a sentence or paragraph from a source.
  • You use an IDEA from a source that is not common knowledge.

When in doubt, cite it!

Plagiarism - How to Avoid It

Save time with a Citation generator

The joy of finding footnotes and bibliographic entries that lead to the perfect original source can only happen when scholars carefully track their sources and generate citations in an appropriate style.  Neglecting to track your sources as you move through the research process will cost you HOURS of precious time.

Try this excellent tool:

NoodleBib is a bibliographic citation and notes management tool. It creates citations for dozens of source types in a variety of styles.  It also helps you keep your citations associated with source notes you create.  It is simple to use and will save you HOURS.

Citation Forms - MLA

When writing this paper, you will be using the MLA format.  MLA uses parenthetical references (instead of footnotes).  If you have any questions, please see a librarian at the help desk for assistance with using the MLA Handbook..

Citation Forms - Turabian

The Turabian citation format is generally used for history research papers.  If your specific source type is not listed on these sheets, please see a librarian at the help desk for assistance with using the the Turabian Manual for Writers.

EasyBib

EasyBib is another citation management system to which the OWHL subscribes.
