The titles on this finding aid represent OWHL print holdings that have been withdrawn and replaced by stable, online access.
Space is a scarce resource at the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library. To make the most efficient use of our shelf and floor space, librarians and faculty developed a plan to withdraw older volumes of print periodicals that are fully duplicated in stable online archives. Most college and academic libraries around the world are faced with making similar decisions in order to meet the continuously changing space and information needs of scholars. Withdrawn volumes are removed from the library collection permanently. A commitment to improving and sustaining access to withdrawn print materials underscores all collection deselection decisions. Collaborative partners in our efforts to sustain and enhance access to withdrawn collections include stable rupositories such as JSTOR, The Library of Congress, The Internet Archive, and the Digital Public Library of America.
Stable archives are collections of digitized information hosted by organizations with excellent reputations (in the academic library world) for their commitment to preservation, access and responsible archiving. Materials in stable archives are expected to stay there permanently.
