Sustainability Scholars Research Guide: Introduction

This guide was created as a tool for the students who have been accepted as Sustainability Scholar finalists. It is designed to provide access to resources they may need during their research.

Congratulations!

Congratulations on becoming a Sustainability Scholar finalist!  The purpose of this OWHL Guide is to act as a springboard to help you conduct your research. It contains suggested resources, as well as citation reminders. Please remember these resources are only suggestions; you can and will find materials, and information outside the scope of this guide.

Happy Researching!

~Mr. Curtis & Ms. Goss

Contact Us

The best way to reach us is via email (dcurtis@andover.edu or egoss@andover.edu), or by stopping by the Welcome Desk at the OWHL. Mr. Curtis is available Tuesday through Thursday 1:30 pm to 9:15 pm, Fridays 12 pm to 7 pm and Saturdays 11 am to 5 pm. Ms. Goss is available Mondays 1:30 pm to 9:15 pm, and Tuesdays through Fridays 8 am to 4 pm. If you reach out to one of us, outside of these hours, we will try to get back to you as quickly as we can.

Important Information

When using any of the OWHL's resources off-campus, or when placing holds on print books in the catalog, you will need two pieces of information:

  1. Your library card number - a.k.a. your student ID number. It starts with a 1 or a 2 and is 7-digits.
  2. Your PIN - a 4-digit passcode. If you don't have/can't remember your PIN number, please reach out, we can reset it.

OWHL Answers - Information

For the majority of the process you can work directly with me, however, if you have a quick question, especially in relation to a citation, and you can't reach me right away, the chat box below is a great way to connect with the OWHL's reference team, during regular OWHL hours.

Identifying Resources

It is important that you start early. It will take time to identify the resources you will rely on, and we may need to search longer for items that are not immediately available. If you need an item that we do not own, or have access to, please let me know and I will make every effort to provide access.

In general, if you would like the OWHL to purchase a resource it should be one that:

  • contains unique information not found in other sources we own,
  • is a useful addition to our library,
  • and/or is not prohibitively expensive.

Expectations For 2023-2024 Scholars

It is a good idea to continuously reference your Sustainability Scholars contract as it contains a comprehensive list of what is expected of you throughout the entire process.

Please meet with Mr. Curtis or Ms. Goss at least one (1) time before the end of Spring Term. It is best to meet with us after you have met with your adviser, at least once, and if necessary, Ms. Guerette so you will have a better idea of what resources we need to look for together.
